چکیده

INTRODUCTION Reliable diagnosis of the severity of mitral regurgitation is important for proper patient treatment and management. However, current clinical methods are either qualitative or limited by geometric assumptions. The only technique capable of bypassing these geometric limitations and quantitatively measure mitral regurgitation is velocity encoded magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, also known as phasecontrast MR velocimetry. This technique has been successfully used to quantify aortic regurgitation with a single image slice. However, due to the complex flow field proximal to the mitral regurgitant orifice in the left ventricle (LV) during systole, a single slice is not sufficient to measure the mitral regurgitant volume.

Quantification of chronic functional mitral regurgitation by automated 3-dimensional peak and integrated proximal isovelocity surface area and stroke volume techniques using real-time 3-dimensional volume color Doppler echocardiography: in vitro and clinical validation.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to test the accuracy of an automated 3-dimensional (3D) proximal isovelocity surface area (PISA) (in vitro and patients) and stroke volume technique (patients) to assess mitral regurgitation (MR) severity using real-time volume color flow Doppler transthoracic echocardiography. METHODS AND RESULTS Using an in vitro model of MR, the effective regurgitant or...

A novel technique to quantify the instantaneous mitral regurgitant rate

BACKGROUND The systolic variation of mitral regurgitation (MR) is a pitfall in its quantification. Current recommendations advocate using quantitative echocardiographic techniques that account for this systolic variation. While prior studies have qualitatively described patterns of systolic variation no study has quantified this variation. METHODS This study includes 41 patients who underwent...

Characterization and quantification of dynamic eccentric regurgitation of the left atrioventricular valve after atrioventricular septal defect correction with 4D Flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance and retrospective valve tracking

BACKGROUND To characterize and directly quantify regurgitant jets of left atrioventricular valve (LAVV) in patients with corrected atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) by four-dimensional (4D)Flow Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR), streamline visualization and retrospective valve tracking. METHODS Medical ethical committee approval and informed consent from all patients or their parent...

Blood Flow Simulation in an Aorta with a mild coarctation Using Magnetic Resonance Angiography and Finite Volume Method

Coarctation of the aorta is one of the five main congenital cardiovascular failures, accounting for 6–8 percent of these failures. This research aimed to simulate the blood flow of a seventeen-year-old male teen with a mild coarctation at one-third of his aorta's descending branch. The simulation was performed by extracting the domain and the input pulsatile velocity signal as the boundary cond...

A New Method to Quantify Mitral Regurgitation

INTRODUCTION In cases of mitral regurgitation, the severity of the regurgitation is the major determinant of progression to left ventricular dilatation and dysfunction. Therefore, precise measurement of regurgitant volume in patients with mitral regurgitation is important for evaluating the progression of the disease which can then determine the optimal time for surgical repair or replacement. ...
